“God speaks not to be heard. God speaks to be OBEYED”.

A faithful Church member shared that with me last Sunday. She was captivated by the truth of that statement. I am captivated by the truth of that statement. What about you?

God doesn’t just want us to hear Him. God expects us to obey him.

Jesus put it this way “If you love me, keep my commandments…Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.  (St, John 14: 15, 23 a)

What are Jesus’ Commandments/teaching? Let’s look at two:

  1. The greatest commandment is to love. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’…There is no commandment greater than these.”

Have you obeyed God’s call to love? How have you demonstrated your love for God and the things of God? Have you spoken to and about persons in ways that are loving? Have you treated persons well?

2.       Jesus commands us to “deny (them)self, take up our cross and follow him”. Matthew 16: 24. Have you obeyed the call to sacrifice for the cause of Christ? Have you obeyed God’s voice to be a good steward, using your time, talents, and treasure to build up the Church’s ministry and God’s world?

God speaks not to be heard. God speaks to be obeyed. What are the different things that God has been saying to you as a Christian. How will you respond?
